I've been a little MIA lately. Here's why -
1) I got a new job!
I'm now a Jewelry Production Assistant at Limbo Jewelry! They're a great little modern jewelry shop here in Austin and I've loved their jewelry since I was at UT. My siblings actually bought me a ring from Limbo for my graduation -
I've worn that ring everyday since December 2014.
It's so surreal that I now work there.
As a Jewelry Production Assistant, I work in the studio, making the jewelry that goes out on their floor. There's usually 3 or 4 great gals there at a time knocking out jewelry. I've been there a little over a month now and I'm so happy with it.
2) I kept my old job!
That being said - I'm still part of the Visitor Services Team at the Bob Bullock Museum. It's an easy gig which gives me plenty of downtime to do little things like write blogs and plan my days and campaigns.
Not to mention, it's a state job and I've been working with the state for over 4 years. It's not a bad idea to have a government job in today's tumultuous environment.
And the people are stellar.
3) I'm still going to school!
I've been taking classes at Austin Community College since 2016 for the fun of it. Honestly, I just want to learn and accumulate more skills. For the last year I've been focused on jewelry classes (it's been going great, obviously.) But due to the two jobs - I had to cut back to one class - Jewelry Repair.
All of this means that I have one day a week to run this business.
Other than that -
I'm still doing markets.
At the beginning of the year I made a goal of doing one market a month. So far it's been going well. I did MissFits Fest in February. Two with Frida Friday ATX in March. CraftHer Market is in April. And there's another one in the works for May.
I'm looking for retailers.
The next feasible step for me is to find retailers and stockists to carry my jewelry. I have a dream list together already: Blanton Museum of Art, Women and their Work and Charm School Vintage are at the top. I'm going to see if Limbo will carry some of my pieces as well. Duh.
Don't worry - I'm trying to instill better habits so I don't break down. I'm sleeping more, turning off my phone more, eating better, exercising (kind of?), wearing more comfortable shoes, flossing more, establishing a skin care routine. All that good stuff.
I'm a little tired - but everything will be okay :)
