More than anything else, Carlo Scarpa revered the world of craft. He understood the intricacies of every material he worked with and was able to extract the best essence of each through his work. This ring, and the matching earrings, bangle, and necklace, are a tribute to his reverence of artisans and craft.
Artis is the Latin word for craft. It's fitting in this situation because Carlo Scarpa was an artisan before he was an architect. He never went to school for architecture nor was he licensed and he was taken to court for practicing Architecture without a license. His court case took place in a room he himself had designed and the judge dismissed the case because - in his examination of the room - Scarpa was a very good architect
